Your daily participation is crucial to the success of this class, and this emphasis is reflected in a participation grade worth 20% of your final grade for the class. At the beginning of the semester, every student has a participation grade of “C”. Whereas a C represents average performance, I assume that every student begins the semester with at least the intention of participating at an average level of competence. If, however, you hope to participate at an above average level, there are 3 primary ways you can increase your grade: post comments on the blog, use Twitter consistently and constructively (use hashtag #engl359), and above all, come to class every day with notes, questions, and ideas about the assigned homework for the day. Also, frequent absence will adversely affect your participation grade (see the Attendance Policy in the course syllabus).
You need not submit anything here in Canvas to receive a participation grade. I'll assign you one at the beginning of the semester and update it periodically. However, if you wish to make an appeal for specific consideration regarding your participation grade, or if you have a question about your current grade, feel free to submit a comment on this assignment's grade.
